The Prism Table
John Foster created an incredible glass prism table in 2013 that people are still talking about today.
When you place it in the sunshine, the light converts into rainbows that dance and scatter across the room.
You’ll see dozens of triangular patches grace the walls, ceiling, and floor of the room with its unpredictable display.
Foster uses transparent glass as the medium for this incredible piece.
Then he cut the material into geometric prisms before arranging them into two tiers.
Then he layered a small glass tabletop surface about halfway up before placing a larger one on the top to make the product a usable table.
The one-of-a-kind piece was handmade and retailed at $6,900.
Foster called it an experiential sculpture that he titled “Sparkle Palace Cocktail Table.”
Foster Creates Fine Art and Designs in Numerous Mediums
When you take a look at Foster’s website, you’ll get a peek into how he forms his glass sculptures.
It all starts by creating a form with dozens of triangles that make it possible to shape the medium to his specifications.
Then he creates geometric shapes that turn into a variety of different sculptures.
All of his work is 100% handmade. In another stunning piece, Foster created a four-tier glass table with various geometric shapes that would create dozens of sunlight refractions if placed in a home.
Although the table isn’t practical to use, it creates a stunning piece that would become the central component of any home.
He also creates light painting light sculptures that turn into colorful displays that naturally draw the eye because of the way the work shines.
Foster says that he wants his work to influence the daily experiences that people have.
He embraces the idea of making changes, allowing the experiential and experimental aspects of each piece to become the foundation of the composition.
You can see the various approaches that he uses for his art on his Instagram page.
