Expressing Creativity
Stina-Wikander has covered everything from wrenches to kitchen mixers with her unique style.
Her textiles breathe new life into the object, while she gets an opportunity to express her creativity in a variety of ways.
Nothing is off-limits to her embroidery.
Even an old toaster feels like a work of art, especially with the two pieces of embroidered toast that stand up in the ready position.
Her Needlepoint Coverings Began in 2012
Stina-Wikander said that she decided to start covering ordinary household items in the 1970s, like a vacuum cleaner because she was interested to see how a different context could transform the item.
Instead of becoming something that was old and forgotten, it could become new and interesting.
She has been working full-time as an artist since 1986, and currently lives in Stockholm.
Stina-Wikander says that most of the smaller objects take her a day or two to make a covering, but larger installations can take several weeks to complete.
One of her most intricate jobs involved an embroidered covering for a typewriter.
You can also find her working with her design company Manussweden to create bags for all people.
