Microsoft Excel Drawings from Japan

Tatsuo Horiuchi is from Japan is it is 80 years old.

His been using excel as canvas to make his paintings.

Yes, Excel, the one and only spreadsheet from Microsoft!

Many of us are looking for online help when comes to make a function or some calculations in Excel.

But not Horiuchi.

He’s been using this tool like nobody else and it is doing so for more than 20 years now and even won the Excel Authoshape Art Contest after 6 years of learning excel.

Excel Paintings as new Hobby

It all started when he retired in 2000 and wanted to do something to fill up his spare time.

As he didn’t want to invest in all those tools and brushes to create his paintings he thought of using a computer to complete his new passion.

After becoming master at it and after being asked why using Microsoft Excel as a drawing application he replied that the program offers :

“More functions and is easier to use.”

Excel Paintings

Don’t know what to say here other than to reconsider my basic Excel skills from a scale of 1-10. I concluded after seeing his drawings that I could easily reset my level knowledge to 1!

And if you are thinking that his excel paintings consists of coloring millions of cells individually then you are wrong.

Most of his Excel drawings consists in Japan landscapes which are beautifully rendered by the Microsoft Excel program.

Some of Tatsuo’s paintings has even been acquired by a local museum Gunma Museum of Art.

Who ever though on this?

Check out Horiuchi’s Excel drawings on his website.
