Watercolour & Gouache Drawings
Claire has travelled extensively, visiting over 50 countries around the world, many of which she backpacked through overland. Seeing the world, wonders like Iguazu Falls in Brazil, Argentina’s Lake District, Machu Picchu in Peru, Angkor Wat in Cambodia and the hills of India has impacted her practice, but so have the in-between places spotted from the window of a sleeper bus, the landscapes walked through slowly, the mundane spots that no one would intentionally visit.
In addition to far flung countries Claire is immensely inspired by beauty spots in the U.K. with woodland being her go-to place to seek peace and to awe at the beauty of nature.
The ‘Woodland Studies’ series is an ongoing series of detailed pen drawings inspired by British woodlands, a favourite location to depict is The Royal Forest of Dean on the English/Welsh border which is a location that holds many special childhood memories and always leaves a feeling of magic and wonder.
